Lehigh I-FMD Advanced Manufacturing

You are here

December 6, 2022 9 am - 5 pm
Health, Science, and Technology Building Room 101, Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA 18015

Lehigh University's Institute for Functional Materials and Devices (I-FMD) invites you to participate in our Symposium on Advanced Manufacturing to be held on its campus on Tuesday December 6, 2022, starting at 9 am EST. This event seeks to bring industry leaders from across the manufacturing landscape to speak about new directions, opportunities, and challenges in the manufacturing arena, and to build fruitful collaborations with faculty experts.

The symposium will be divided into three sessions. The first session will comprise keynote talks by industry experts, providing their perspectives in a 25 minute presentation (+5 minute Q&A) each about how advances in manufacturing are being implemented within their industry, as well as new directions to encourage academic research. In the second session, Lehigh faculty experts working in manufacturing or related fields will present 5 minute lightning rounds of their own research expertise and interests. Finally, we will have a networking session where industry attendees can directly interact with faculty and graduate students to discuss potential collaborations and hear more about the facilities and expertise available at Lehigh. There will also be an opportunity for industry participants to tour Lehigh's key research facilities.

This symposium is free to participate and open to individuals both from industry and academia, but registration is required. Please join us for this exciting event by registering at the link below.

All participants: please register at no charge by November 28, 2022

Bridging the Industry-Academia Gap in Materials Research

Lehigh Materials Symposium and Open House
November 18-19, 2019
Iacocca Hall, Wood Dining Room, Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA 18015

Registration is closed. If you are interested in attending, please contact Nikki Rump (Nir419@lehigh.edu).

The discovery and development of tomorrow’s innovative materials requires fundamental scientific understanding, a goal traditionally pursued by scientists and engineers in academia.

Industry practitioners, tasked with real-world implementation, often find the path from university research to wide-scale commercial adoption to be fraught with obstacles and unforeseen pitfalls—issues that can often be avoided through more direct communication and partnership.

The 2019 Lehigh Materials Symposium seeks to bridge this gap by gathering together industry research leaders, program managers, federal agencies and academics, to discuss key needs and challenges in materials research.

From detecting and treating disease, to implementing large-scale renewable energy sources, to securing food and fresh water for all, the importance of direct industry-academia collaboration in exploring and developing advanced materials has never been greater.

Hosted by Lehigh University’s Institute for Functional Materials and Devices (I-FMD), the Symposium is open to academic and industry-focused researchers and graduate students pursuing future in advanced materials.

  • Poster session to showcase current research interests and projects
  • Tour of Lehigh nanofabrication and materials characterization facilities
